Victory Electric Office Closed Due to Two Employee Positive COVID-19 Results

Sunday | May 17, 2020
All News

Recently, two Victory Electric employees tested positive for COVID19. Both employees are asymptomatic and quarantined at home. Electric service to cooperative members continues uninterrupted.

“The health and safety of our employees is our number one priority, under normal circumstances and during these unprecedented times,” said Shane Laws, CEO. “We are saddened to learn of our team members’ testing positive, and are committed to supporting them and their families during this time. While this is a concerning development and we are making operational changes to protect all employees, we are confident in our ability to continue essential operations and business functions and ensure the delivery of safe, reliable power to our members.”

Victory Electric quickly notified other employees who might have come in contact with the individuals who tested positive and have asked them to be tested for COVID-19 and to follow CDC guidelines.

In response to the positive COVID-19 tests, Victory Electric’s office is now closed to all personnel, in addition to the public closure implemented weeks ago. Some employees were working from the office to process payments, answer member phone calls and set up new service, and the engineering and line crews have and continue to build lines and maintain the electric infrastructure. More employees are now working remotely pending deep cleaning and sanitizing of the office per CDC guidelines with no effect on the delivery of electric service to our members.

All member phone calls to Victory Electric are now being routed to our answering service. We respectfully ask members to only call Victory Electric to report outages. You can also report an outage on SmartHub. If you have a question about your account, need to connect, disconnect or transfer service, or have a payment question, a member service representative can be reached by emailing memberservices@victoryelectric.net. While there might be a slight delay, we will respond to emails as quickly as possible.

Victory Electric will continue to deliver the reliable power you need and provide the excellent service you expect while taking measures to maintain a healthy workforce and keep key personnel, such as line workers and member service representatives, available so power continues to flow uninterrupted. For weeks, Victory Electric has taken early and aggressive steps to safeguard the health of our workforce and preserve our ability to keep the lights on amid the spread of COVID-19. We instituted the following measures according to our emergency action plan and guidelines from KDHE and the CDC.

  • Closing the office to the public

  • Suspending all work travel and in-person meetings, discouraging discretionary personal travel, and requiring 14-day self-quarantine periods for employees returning from travel to impacted areas

  • Allowing remote work for employees with the capability to do so

  • For those employees not able to work remotely:

    • Requiring the use of masks in the office

    • Implementing social distancing guidelines and adjusting space between work areas to limit direct or indirect human contact

    • Altering crew staging areas and protocols to limit contact and exposure between line crews

    • Instituting and encouraging vigilant hand and respiratory hygiene and regular disinfecting of frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Ensuring sick or mildly ill employees stay home

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through additional operational changes. We encourage members to continue to support one another and follow recommended guidelines to limit the spread COVID-19. Only leave the house for essential items. Stay home if you’re sick. Wash your hands frequently. Practice social distancing. Disinfect surfaces and regularly touched items frequently. Together, we can #PowerOn and do our part to slow this virus.
