Victory Electric Partners with City of Montezuma

Victory Electric occasionally receives questions about the cooperative's role in supplying power to the City of Montezuma. The city owns and operates its municipal electric system, partnering with both Sunflower Electric Power Corporation and Victory Electric to provide reliable electricity to its residents and businesses.

Recently, Victory Electric has partnered with the City of Montezuma to provide additional assistance with power outages, changing out poles, and providing mutual aid and coverage during storms. With this new agreement, Victory Electric stands ready to assist the city’s municipal utility team whenever they request the cooperative’s help.

Sunflower Electric

Sunflower provides wholesale generation and transmission services to six member distribution cooperatives, one of which is Victory Electric. Sunflower also provides generation and transmission services to several wholesale municipal utilities, including the City of Montezuma.

As one of Sunflower’s wholesale electric customers, the City of Montezuma benefits from Sunflower’s high-voltage transmission upgrades, the addition of generating units, and other system improvements. The City of Montezuma pays Sunflower for its wholesale power supply, and the City of Montezuma handles all billing for residential and business energy use.

Victory Electric

Victory Electric performs a support role in the process of providing power to Montezuma. Through its distribution power lines, Victory facilitates the delivery of electricity through its power system from the high-voltage facilities owned by Sunflower to the lower-voltage municipal facilities owned by the City of Montezuma.

Victory Electric previously provided operation and maintenance support for these facilities as needed to the City of Montezuma, as if the city were a member of the cooperative. The new partnership builds on this support, and Victory Electric crews will be available on-call to provide additional assistance to the city.
