The Victory Electric Cooperative Assn., Inc. in Dodge City, Kan., is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position will be responsible for the design development, testing, coordination, and maintenance schedule of the electric grid. The Electrical Engineer will perform detailed calculations and develop technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant electrical specifications, codes, and standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Design and engineer the Cooperative's power distribution network
- Support Network Operations Managers and Distribution Engineering functions.
- Duties include project design, system studies, coordination studies, voltage studies, and power quality investigations, project evaluations, estimates, staking, project record keeping, and contractor oversight.
- Maintain and engineer the Cooperative system electrical model, including mapping, line design, and substation placement.
- Initiate, prepare and negotiate necessary local, state, and federal permitting and zoning for projects.
- Assist in managing storm restoration.
- Assist in developing operation plans and annual budgets.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a construction work plan
- Provide effective decision-making that creates cost-effective design and lowers outage indices.
- Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; effective presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scale simultaneously.
- Ability to thoroughly document analytical work.
SAFETY PRACTICES AND TRAINING:
Create a safe and secure working environment that coincides with the Cooperative’s safety guidelines for cooperative personnel as well as members and the public in general. The Electrical Engineer shall participate in and attend job training and safety programs as necessary and shall observe all safety rules, the safety manual, and first aid techniques. The Electrical Engineer should know electrical design of the Cooperative’s distribution network, staking, voltage and power standards, etc., and report problems or potential problems for corrective action.
The job may require irregular hours in emergency and storm situations with some night and weekend work with occasional travel to attend training, conferences, and meetings, in and out of state.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL
This position is both indoor and outdoor. The job requires coordination, manual dexterity, and visual acuity, as well as the ability to continuously listen and communicate orally. Job will occasionally require bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and crouching. Job requires frequent sitting at a desk and operating office machines such as a keyboard, mouse, computer, two-way radio, telephone, and fax machine requiring frequent use of fingers and hands.
MENTAL
Position works primarily with information that must be processed with accuracy and may require communicating such information to others, oftentimes under stressful conditions. The task of position often requires intense concentration for long periods of time. Employees may experience stress or feel pressured to complete a job or task with a deadline and/or under emergency situations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Team player and demonstrated ability to perform in such an environment.
- Ability to participate in cross-function teams.
- General understanding of network design, standards, and system operations.
- Strong understanding of the use of personal computers.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
