What to Expect Before You Begin

Welcome to Victory Electric’s Lightner Community Spirit Scholarship online application process!

Applicants should carefully review the Award Information and Applicant  Eligibility & Requirements on the scholarship landing web page. 

This online application form is intended to guide an applicant step-by-step through the scholarship application process. All required form fields be completed and any documents uploaded before the final application can be submitted. An unfinished application CANNOT be saved, and any information will be lost if an applicant exits the application form before submitting the final application.

Applicants are encouraged to gather and prepare any necessary materials, such as your résumé, essay, biographical statement, photograph, and other information before starting the application process.

Winners will be notified later this spring and be required to submit a transcript before scholarship funds are issued.

Biographical Statement 

Write a brief biographical statement introducing yourself that describes who you are and includes your educational plans, career goals, and any other information about yourself that you feel is important.

Essay

Both George and Richard Lightner, the namesakes of this scholarship, believed in playing an active role and contributing to their community. The two served a combined total of 67 years on Victory Electric's Board of Trustees. 

As a cooperative, Victory Electric follows seven cooperative principles, one of which is “commitment to community.” In a 500-800 word essay, please explain how you have demonstrated your commitment to your community and share how Victory Electric serves your community.

(Applicants must use personal examples to communicate their contribution of non-paid service in their community, school or religious organization.)

School Documents

Winners are required to submit a transcript at the end of the semester.

Photo


Upload a digital, high-resolution headshot photo. The photo may be used for the announcement of scholarship winners and for promotional purposes. No selfies, please.

If a professional photographer took the submitted photo, please provide a copyright release from the photographer allowing Victory Electric to use the photo for promotional and advertising purposes. It is preferred applicants download this specific photographer’s photo release form and send to the photographer to complete, but a professional photographer's own release form will also be accepted.
